The oak in Sanne Okoye’s parents’ garden came down in a storm in 2020. She had never built anything bigger than a shelf, but she could not bear to see it go for firewood.
The table took her eight months, in a borrowed workshop behind a boatyard. A friend posted a photo of it. Within a week, eleven people had asked if they could buy one.
Fallen Oak Furniture now has four makers and works only with wood from trees that have come down on their own, within 50 miles of Port Avalon. Every table has a brass tag on the underside saying where its tree stood.
